Donor IVF
Donor IVF is performed with donated sperm and/or eggs. Couples as well as singles can be treated by means of donor -IVF, and treatment with double donation is also an opportunity when both sperm and oocytes are needed.
How donor IVF treatment works
Donor IVF involves the use of donated sperm and/or eggs. In Sweden, only open donors are allowed, which means that the child at a mature age is entitled to find out his or her genetic origin.
Eggs and/or sperm are selected where a match is made primarily based on external characteristics.
Motile sperm are allowed to fertilize eggs in a culture dish in the laboratory. After 2 -6 days of culture, an embryo is returned to the uterus. If more than one embryo is formed, the others are cryopreserved, and can then be used for future treatments.
