Donor IVF uses donated sperm and / or eggs. With IVF, also called test tube fertilization, the sperm is allowed to fertilize an egg outside the woman's body.

How a donor-IVF treatment works

Donor IVF uses donated sperm and/or eggs. In Sweden, only an open donor may be used, which means that the child at a mature age is entitled to find out his or her genetic origin.

Eggs and/or sperm are selected where a match is made primarily based on external characteristics.

Moving sperm and egg are combined in a culture dish in the laboratory so that fertilization can take place. After 2-6 days, an embryo is returned to the uterus. If more than one embryo is formed, the others are frozen, which can then be used for future treatments.
